Prof. Dr. Mathias Kunze is an economist and lawyer with over 35 years of international experience in business & management, marketing, business and tax law, and health sciences. His academic path has been significantly shaped by the teachings of globally renowned scholars such as Michael E. Porter, Philip Kotler, Milton Friedman, and David L. Katz, whose research he thoroughly engaged with and successfully transformed into both his academic work and entrepreneurial concepts. As an entrepreneur and Founder & CEO of the ONSITES Group, he designs innovative solutions in digital business with a strong focus on higher education, career development, law, and health. He also develops global tax optimization strategies for high-level clients as an international tax strategist and Principal of the LEGALIS tax firm. In health sciences, he focuses on prevention and health promotion, conducting research especially on the application of plant-based substances in phytotherapy. As Rector of the ONSITES High School and the ONSITES Graduate School, he advances smart and digital learning and study concepts with a strong focus on innovative AI-supported learning systems. He also teaches at renowned international universities and regularly publishes academic books, monographs, and scholarly articles. In addition to his native German, he speaks English, Polish, and Russian.

The Magister degree in Economics at Comenius University in Bratislava, specializing in "International Management & Marketing," laid the foundation for a deep understanding of global market mechanisms and strategic business management. The conceptual and methodological framework developed during this program influenced the subsequent development of international business models, the design of innovative educational formats, and the integration of AI-enhanced approaches into progressive learning and business environments.

The Master of Laws degree in Business Law at Warsaw Management University, specializing in "International Economic and Tax Law," conveyed legal-economic competencies with an evident connection to international tax law. In view of the increasing complexity of global tax legislation, in-depth expertise was developed for structuring international tax solutions, which is strategically applied to cross-border planning concepts for mid-sized, multinational business structures in order to realize tax optimization potential in international contexts in a consistent and deliberate manner.

The research activities in the PhD program in Business Administration at the IIC University of Technology, with a specialization in "Digital Business & Marketing," focused on the transformation of education-related processes in the context of advancing digitalization. The focus was on user-centered digital product strategies, the structuring of scalable digital business processes, and the development of AI-supported learning and study models. The insights gained were gradually transformed into company-owned educational platforms and strategically implemented there.

Prof. Dr. Mathias Kunze's academic career is characterized by his strong focus on complex analytical challenges. His dissertation, entitled “Intercultural Marketing as a Dynamic Driver of Globalization,” demonstrates his expertise and competence in international marketing research. He examined key cultural determinants that significantly influence strategic marketing decisions in international markets. A particular focus was placed on necessary modifications to the marketing mix in order to effectively address and successfully meet diverse cultural requirements.

The dissertation was supervised by Associate Prof. Dr. Helena Nízka, who was Chair of Marketing at Comenius University in Bratislava at the time. The second reviewer was Prof. Dr. Ľudomír Šlahor, an internationally renowned economist with proven expertise in economic analysis and strategic corporate management, as well as Vice-Rector of Comenius University in Bratislava. Prof. Dr. Jozef Komorník oversaw the doctoral process with his outstanding academic expertise as a mentor and in his former role as Dean of the Faculty of Management.

The intensive academic collaboration with these renowned scholars significantly influenced the methodological rigor and scholarly depth of the research. Prof. Dr. Mathias Kunze was appointed Chair Professor in Business & Management by the Academic Senate of Nan Jeon University in Tainan (Taiwan). The Senate's decision was based particularly on his extensive experience at the interface between academic research and business practice, his numerous international publications, and his commitment to innovative and digitally supported educational formats. The appointment certificate was formally presented to him during a ceremony held in the university's main auditorium. In his address, the Rector of Nan Jeon University emphasized the importance of the appointments of Dr. Kunze and the other newly appointed Chair Professors, Dr. René Rueth and Dr. Sebastian Lamm, for the strategic development of the university. Following the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Kunze gave a speech on behalf of all the newly appointed professors, highlighting the significance of international academic exchange and emphasizing the importance of practice-oriented teaching and research concepts.

At the invitation of the Rector of Nan Jeon University, a reception was held immediately following the official appointment ceremony. The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Mathias Kunze, fellow appointed chair professors Dr. René Rueth and Dr. Sebastian Lamm, as well as other faculty members. During the reception, in-depth technical discussions took place, focusing on concrete prospects for joint academic projects in business and management, along with potential future research collaborations. Particular emphasis was placed on the long-term strengthening of scientific exchange among all participants.

On the occasion of his appointment to the Chair Professorship, Prof. Dr. Mathias Kunze was officially welcomed by the Deputy Mayor of Tainan, Dr. Yen Chun-tso. Alongside personal congratulations on his appointment, the reception featured in-depth discussions on shared academic interests and common areas between Europe and Asia. Prof. Dr. Kunze and Dr. Yen Chun-tso gave particular attention to the sustainable transfer of knowledge between European and Asian universities. Additionally, the two academics exchanged views on their respective approaches and experiences in health prevention. Both discussion partners explicitly emphasized that more intensive networking among academia, business, and public administration is essential for sustainably promoting knowledge transfer between Europe and Asia and effectively implementing shared goals in health prevention.

Prof. Dr. Mathias Kunze presented the US President's Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Yen Chun-tso, Deputy Mayor of Tainan, on behalf of the Guangdian Foundation. Dr. Yen Chun-tso received this award for his many years of commitment to introducing and implementing methadone substitution therapy for drug addicts in Taiwan. This initiative significantly reduced the HIV infection rate among drug addicts in Taiwan and led to a change in perspective of how society deals with addicts. In his acceptance speech, Dr. Yen Chun-tso emphasized that the successful implementation of the therapy was only possible thanks to the joint efforts of numerous supporters. Also present at the ceremony were the mayor of Tainan, Lai Ching-te, health director Kuo Hsu-sung, and the mayor of Chiayi, Huang Min-hui, who highlighted the significance of this award for the city of Tainan and Taiwan as a whole in their speeches.

In 2012, Prof. Dr. Mathias Kunze was awarded the prestigious President's Call to Service Award. This special honor was presented by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation, chaired by then-US President Barack Obama. The award recognized his many years of personal commitment to a wide range of social, community, and church projects, in which he has volunteered more than 4,000 hours of his time. These initiatives included, in particular, promoting educational equity, social cohesion, and the social participation of disadvantaged groups. The award underscores the social significance of his volunteer work and highlights its contribution to the sustainable development of a responsible and cohesive society. Furthermore, the award recognizes and values volunteer work as a fundamental element of social progress, to which Prof. Dr. Kunze has contributed in a special way through his diverse activities.

This honor recognizes in particular his outstanding initiatives in establishing international university partnerships between different countries and cultures, as well as his commitment to cross-border academic exchange. He was instrumental in creating new study programs and actively promoted the exchange of knowledge and experience between students and teachers. In addition, he continuously advocated for the strategic development of educational institutions and supported intercultural dialogue.

In 2016, the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation, led by then-US President Barack Obama, presented Prof. Dr. Mathias Kunze with the MLK Drum Major for Service Award. This award was presented as part of the national Martin Luther King Day of Service initiative by the White House in collaboration with the Corporation for National and Community Service. Prof. Dr. Kunze received this award in particular for his sustained activities in promoting young students by establishing mentoring programs to support young people in accessing higher education. He was particularly committed to students from poorer countries and disadvantaged young people, whom he helped to gain new academic and professional perspectives through targeted counseling and personal support. In doing so, he made an important contribution to overcoming social and economic barriers to education.

In 2019, Prof. Dr. Mathias Kunze was honored with the President's Award for Educational Excellence in Gold. This award is traditionally presented by the U.S. Department of Education, in cooperation with the White House, to secondary school students who have demonstrated consistently outstanding academic performance. For educational policy reasons, however, the award is also occasionally bestowed upon academics who have made significant contributions to secondary education. Against this backdrop, Prof. Dr. Mathias Kunze received this honor - which was signed by President Donald Trump and Secretary of Education Elisabeth DeVos - in recognition of his support for high-achieving students, his commitment to the development of educational support programs, and his effective efforts toward improving the quality of teaching in secondary education.
